New Elevated Link Planned for Amritsar Airport and Expressway

Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has urged the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to consider the construction of an elevated corridor linking Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport with the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway to improve connectivity and address growing traffic congestion in Amritsar.

According to Aujla, Airport Road is already experiencing heavy traffic, with congestion expected to increase further after the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway becomes fully operational and the proposed international cricket stadium is developed. He has proposed an elevated corridor from Gumtala Bypass via the airport at Rajasansi to the roundabout near Morcha Sahib Gurdwara on the expressway, providing seamless, signal-free connectivity between the airport, the expressway and the city.

The MP has requested Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to direct the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to undertake a feasibility study and prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposal. He has also sought priority status for the project to enable its timely execution.

If approved, the elevated corridor is expected to improve urban mobility, reduce travel time, strengthen access to the airport and expressway, and support tourism, trade and religious travel while accommodating future traffic growth in Amritsar.
